the shooting effect of Inspire 1 Pro X5

Summery:
1, X5 adopts the original 15mm fixed-focus lens of DJI, which records distortionless images. But we’ll feel the angle is not broad enough. Well, every coin has two sides. The good is that you can get strong movie sense, suitable for little scene. While for larger scene, you need to fly higher and farther.
2, the lens of X5 is replaceable. So if you want to have large scene shooting, it is suggested to mount a OLYMPUS 12mm fixed- focus lens.
3, carrying a X5 makes Inspire 1 heavier. Although it shorten four-minute flight time, that doesn’t have too bad impact on photographing.
4.Is 4K image useful for ordinary players? Well, that depends on how you play in the latter. For example, if we make digital zoom, as 4K provides enough pixel, even we change to 1080p, we can still have fourfold zoom effect.
5.We can see the images shot when falling dramatically are still stable, which means that X5 is reliable in the aspect of stability.

DYS Smart Gopro Gimbal review: good performance, easy to calibrate

Before starting my review of DYS Smart Gopro Gimbal, i would like to ask those who have using experiences with Tarot T-2D GoPro Gimbal, whether it is a really great gimbal. Before i bought this Smart, my friend suggested me to buy the Tarot one, but i was afraid it is not stable enough as it is 2-axis. But no matter whether i missed a good gimbal or not, all i want to say is that this DYS Smart Gopro Gimbal is also wonderful.

In my opinion, for video work, a 3 axis is essential, that’s why i didn’t choose the Tarot T-2D. Pretty good build quality and a quality controller (not like the really cheap ones) make me really impress with DYS Smart Gopro Gimbal. It is introduced to be plug and play, but for me, it didn’t work out of the box. But with some patience and a lot of forum reading, i got it up and running including RC tilt control. And with a bit of tuning, it offers great performance and stability, and does all i expect.

Everything is is aluminum and carbon fiber, DYS Smart Gopro Gimbal weighs about 230g. I’ve simply attached to my Phantom, connected battery and two channels on receiver and away you go. Due to your aircraft thrust, it may needs some PID settings and absolutely loosing power if your batteries voltage is lower than 12V. I think the best setup scenario is 4S setup and using BEC for gimbal at 12V all the time.

Software of DYS Smart Gopro Gimbal can be downloaded from the Internet, and it is accurate and comprehensive. At the beginning, the YAW was out slightly( means the camera pointed left a little), but after downloading the GUI, it was simple to tweak to straighten it.

What’s more, it is no problem to connect a AV plug to send the image on FPV, there is enough place. In one word, DYS Smart Gopro Gimbal is a fine product.

Tarot T-2D GoPro Gimbal review:quality, stable

At the beginning, i was seeking for a proper gimbal for my GoPro 3+. To be honest, i was hesitated for a while between Zenmuse and this Tarot T-2D GoPro Gimbal as Tarot T-2D is a 2-axis gimbal, and i worried about the stability, but finally, i was fully persuaded by its tempting price only a fraction of the Zenmuse’. The fact proves that i didn’t make a wrong choice! Tarot T-2D works perfect with my GoPro 3+, and till now it still works( i bought it on Dem 12, 2014)! What a great product!

Tarot T-2D GoPro Gimbal works fine out of the box, no mess, no needed extra settings, and Tarot brand gives you the tranquility that you have spare parts in the market for it. Before i bought, i doubted its stability, but now i think my worry at that time was dispensable. I am the person who enjoys the excitement from fast speed. Even the my aircraft is in high speed flight, Tarot T-2D can still stabilize and control the GoPro camera precisely with the highest stability to achieve best camera performance!

But before enjoying its wonderful performance, it costed me much time to assemble! Well, i think that’s largely because i was a newbie. So i had to search on the Internet and YouTube looking for answers, and finally i found a really useful video which shows how to assemble it from start to finish, as well as shares some tips to solve the troubles we would meet often. I’d like to share with you here and hope it will help you too.

Be sure to upgrade the firmware to the latest version, although that was also hard for me at the beginning. Anyway, Tarot T-2D GoPro Gimbal is a great quality and stable gimbal for the price and the best choice for a GoPro. Works very well, you don’t have to pay through your nose to get a decent gimbal like the Zenmuse.

No way out? Drone builds a rope bridge for you

Recently, a video released on YouTube shows several aircraft researchers succeeded in building a firm rope bridge through controlling several drones. And the final result is that people can pass safely!

The biggest highlight of drone is that it can reach places which are difficult for people to reach. This video that displays the whole process of building a solid rope bridge using drone was released by a researcher from RTH Zurich Flying Machine Arena.

According to the state of the researcher, the whole structure of the bridge was made by drones except hand rack and foot foot stand on the both side. The bridge is 7.4 meter long, whose knots were all tied by drones. In addition, before starting building the bridge, they installed many motion capture devices indoors to convey information of location surveying to drones.

Researchers said, this test aims to prove that drone is also able to build a bridge independently, and load rating is high, at least it is no problem for people to pass.

New HobbyWing ESC- XRotor 15A

HobbyWing ESC always enjoys good reputation on the market. Since crossing drones are becoming popular, it has specially developed XRotor series of ESCs for multirotor, with very good throttle linear. Recently, it newly released XRotor 15A which is made using brand new driver, and it is said that the throttle response is faster.

Compared with Emax 12A and XRotor 10A, XRotor 15A is in similar size with them. After testing these three ESC separately, i found XRotor 15A is much more responsive to accelerate/ decelerate, and less noise.

in short, this HobbyWing XRotor 15A is very satisfied with fast response during speedy flight, no delay, low temperature, and is no problem for violent flight.

The strange models you never see before, which can be take as reference for your DIY

In addition to the normal drones we usually see, there are many drones with weird appearance for special applications. Let me show you in the followings.

1,AD-1 oblique wing aircraft built in 1979 belongs to NASA. The angle between wing and fuselage is 60 degree. In fact, the wing is rotatable during flight.

2,This M2-F1 is made adopting lifting structure without wings. The drive ability is poor, so this drone is called a streamlined brick.

3,High- mobility HIMAT was developed by NASA and United State Air Force to explore new technologies to develop fighters in the future.

4,The biggest feature of this plane is the vertical tail. It was made in 1997, with the aim of testing the flight ability and the remote control performance of non-tail aircraft.

5, this V-22 combines fixed wing and propellers into one, which is a tiltrotor aircraft.

6, V-12 is the largest helicopter in the world made by Russia for military. It is 28 meter high, 4.4 meter wide. The engine was installed at the tail. It also features fixed wing.

7, dish aircraft is always the emphasis in scientists’ researches. If there is vote for weird planes, it is surely on the list.

8, Northrop XP-79B aircraft was built in 1945. The engineers equipped two jet engines for it. But it seemed that this plane is without a head, which is so strange.

9, in general, X series aircraft all own weird appearance. This X- 48B integrated many advanced technologies which can be developed for large passenger planes or for military use.

10, Hyper III was built in 1969, which is also a lifting body plane. Looked from the front side, so weird it is. The biggest feature is that it has winglet.

Seeing so many grotesque airplanes, the only regret is that they already disappeared long long ago. So they just can be the references for developing planes. Dear friends, why not make such kind of models? It’s time to test your manual ability.

ProDrone is going to release the all-new professional drone- Byrd

When it comes to professional drones, i believe most people will remind of DJI Phantom 3 Pro. However, Byrd which will be released soon is also wonderful because in addition to the special foldable propeller, the gimbal is replaceable, and the flight time is about 30 minutes.

According to the data issued by ProDrone, the largest selling point of Byrd lies on the retractable designs on propellers and landing gears. When they fold, the whole drone look like a box, convenient for carriage and storage. Besides, the built-in 14.2 7000mAh LiPo battery allows the drone to fly 29 minutes, which is better than DJI Phantom with flight time of 25 minutes. Meanwhile, the gimbal is designed to be replaceable, so users can not only mount suitable cameras according to actual needs, but also use it to load items up to 2km through replacing the holder.

What should be aware is that Byrd will launch three versions: Standard, Advanced and Premium. The Standard is equipped with a 60fps 1080p lens, Advanced comes with a holder for GoPro, and Premium is with a 30fps 4K lens. As to the transmission range, Standard is within 500 meter, the other two can reach 2 km.

The above three versions all have built-in GPS navigation system which is able to preset airline for Byrd to fly. Besides, Advanced and Premium is also equipped with ultrasonic positioning system. Byrd supports to be controlled using two controllers, and the shooting videos can be displayed on screens of three different devices at real time.

At present, Byrd is planned to be released at the end of this year. Although they didn’t mention the issue of price, they said there will be price differences between 800 and 3000 US dollars.

GoPro panorama camera at sky-high price, is released!

Summery: this panorama camera contains 16 GoPro Hero 4 sport cameras, but the price is unbelievably high!

In the early of this year, as the Google I/ O conference, GoPro displayed Sixty- Camera- a photographic equipment that can shoot from 360 degree, which has gained great attention. Recently, this equipment was released officially, named Odyssey.

According to the information on the product page, GoPro Odyssey is consisted of 16 GoPro Hero 4 sport cameras, 16 micro SD cards, round setting for panorama shoot, cables, accessories and ports. If you have the desire to buy this one, may be you will be disappointed because of the super expensive price up to 15 thousand US dollars! What’s more, only professionals are allowed to purchase.

GoPro Odyssey is the first equipment specially designed for Google virtual reality platform- Jump, therefore, Google apparently hopes this equipment can help users to shoot high quality videos, which is beneficial to the positive development of its own platform.

The differences between brushed motor and brushless motor

With more and more people knowing about model planes, hobbyists are increasing quickly. But when choosing a plane, most people choose only according to appearance, and they don’t understand that the internal equipment is the most important. In fact, if you are going to buy a RC aircraft, the first question you should consider is motor.

In general, there are three types of motors:
1, brushed direct-current motor: high rotate rate, strong torque force, good adaptation
2, brushless direct-current motor: small size, no disturb, controllable speed
3, brushless alternating-current motor: small size, strong torque force, controllable speed, no disturb, low noise

Previously many professional players often worried about the abrasion problem of motor as it will shorten using time and weaken power. While brushless motor overcome these shortcomings, especially the revolutionary improvement of power performance, which give you higher working efficiency and longer using life.

Just as its name implies, brushless motor means there is no brush. So during working, it won’t create much abrasion force and heat, and of course, efficiency and rotate rate are further boosted. In short, compared with brushed motors, brushless motor owns longer using time and stabler performance. Beside, during the whole using process, you will find that brushless motor is more powerful and efficient, you can also enjoy longer flight time.

recommended brushless motor: Sunnysky, Emax, Eachine, DYS

FPV starting guide

In this guide I will try and help those of you that want to get started with FPV (First Person View) but don’t know where to start or what to buy. I will try to teach you what to look for and what to look out for when choosing your first components. The guide is segmented into two parts “The basic FPV setup” and the “The “advanced” stuff”. The first part being more in depths, giving basic understanding, and the second part is more of a “carrot” showing ways to enhancing the FPV experience once you got going.

Introduction
FPV flying isn’t quite as easy to do as one might think – “It is like learning to fly radio control all over again”. Do not attempt to fly full FPV the first few flights! It’s best to either fly your plane normally (visually) with the FPV gear on it and record the flight so that you afterwards can watch the recording and get used to the FPV point of view, or have a friend fly your plane while you watch the video feed. The important thing is to get used to navigate from the air, which is quite a lot harder than it sounds. A good tip is to before the flight, spot out big landmarks that are easy to see from the air and remember how they are located in relations to your self. You do not want to get disoriented in the air, that will most definitely lead to a crashed or lost airplane. A friend that can visually follow the airplane for you (a “spotter”) and take over if you get disorientated or the video gear malfunctions is a good idea. Take it slow, don’t rush things. It’s easy to loose a FPV airplane.
Other than that you will need these things to succeed:

Skill enough to fly/stear a RC vehicle visually
Basic electronics understanding
Soldering skills
Free time
Patience
Money
If you got that were good to go!

What airplane is suitable for FPV
To be able to do FPV you need a vehicle of some sort. It can be a car, boat, heli, hovercraft or what ever you want. Since most people that want to do FPV fly airplanes, I will be using that as my starting point to this guide. So what is the best beginner FPV airplane? That is a tricky question since it depends on taste. You first FPV airplane should be:

Stable
Easy to fly
Able to carry extra weight
Roomy inside the fuselage

There are many different airplanes out there that are good for FPV flying, and different people like different airplanes, you can select one yo like and start your FPV journey.

2015年9月8日星期二

the basic FPV setup

To begin your FPV journey you need at least these 4 items:

A video transmitter – To transmit the picture to the ground
A video receiver – To receive the picture on the ground
A camera – To have a picture to transmit
A video display/goggles – To watch the video feed from the airplane
This is the BASIC setup, the absolute necessary stuff to be able to fly FPV. I recommend to start out simple and then expand with the more advanced stuff once you mastered the basics.

The video transmitter
At the moment there are 4 different frequency bands to choose from when it comes to transmitting video, and they are; 900MHz, 1.3GHz, 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz.
Before you choose what frequency you want to use you need to do some research of what frequencies that are allowed in your country, for example; 900MHz is not allowed in Sweden because it’s used by air traffic, and if any license is needed to transmit on any of these frequencies. In most countries you are allowed to transmit up to 10mW of video on the 2.4GHz band without a license. You also need to take into account what frequency your RC transmitter utilizes; if you fly on 2.4GHz, you can’t use that frequency for your video link as well.

Here is a list of the pros and cons of the different frequencies:

900MHz and 1.3GHz
+ Less influenced by obstacles due to lower frequency
+ much less “crowded” frequency
+ Works with 2.4GHz RC transmitters
- can interfere with GPS signal
- hard to find antennas
- not that many transmitters/recievers to choose from

2.4GHz
+ Easy to find a wide variety of antennas
+ Many transmitters/recievers to choose from
+ Doesn’t interfere with GPS as much
- More influenced by obstacles
- More “crowded” frequency
- Don’t work with 2.4GHz RC transmitters

5.8GHz
+ Easy to find a wide variety of antennas
+ Doesn’t interfere with GPS as much
+ Works with 2.4GHz RC transmitters
- Even more influenced by obstacles
- More “crowded” frequency
- not that many transmitters/recievers to choose from

A 1.3GHz 300mW transmitter

Ok, now that you’ve chosen the frequency you need to know how much power to get.
“There is no such thing as to much power” – Or is there?

A transmitter with higher power will:
+ Have longer range
- Be bigger
- Be heavier
- Produce more heat and may require a heat-sink (even more weight)
- Draw more current
- Be less efficient

A common misconception is that doubling the transmitter power will give you double the range. This is not true, doubling the transmitter power will only give you 1.414 times longer range (The square root of 2 or 3dB). The best choise in my oppinion is to use a smaller transmitter and a patch antenna (more about antennas later on) on the receiver to get extra range as you normally won’t fly 360° around yourself.

There is no use in having trice the range on your video link than on your RC link. These are my suggestions if you use a standard RC link:

~300mW 1.3GHz / 900MHz transmitter
or a
~500mW 2.4GHz / 5.8GHz transmitter

Plus a ~9dBi Patch antenna for the receiver

These combos easily gives about 2-4km of crisp video which is more that you need if you fly with a common RC link. They will also be light, use less current and not be prone to overheating. A good balance for your first setup.

The Receiver
This is the easy part. When you buy a transmitter you will almost definitely be able to buy a matching receiver from the same place. As long as the receiver works on the same sub frequencies (ex 910MHz, 915MHz..) as your transmitter your good to go. Sometimes you will have the choice to buy a “dual output” receiver, which means that is has two composite outputs, which is nice if you want to record you flights or have a “passenger” screen/goggles. But you can get a separate composite “splitter” later on if you want to.

The camera
Any camera that has a composite output will work but there are some qualities to look for in a camera when picking one for FPV use. The most important one is fast brightness adjustment, this is because the brightness varies so much and so fast during a normal FPV flight. If you use a camera that’s slow to adjust its brightness you will end up with a useless picture during nearly the entire flight, and you might even crash.
Other qualities to look for is obviously small and lightweight. But now comes the tricky bit… Image quality. Why is this the tricky bit? Because “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Different people value different things when it comes to “image quality”.

Some like bright colors, some like a brighter picture, some like higher resolution and so on. This is why I can’t say; “Buy this camera, it’s the best one”. You need to compare different cameras your self to find the one you like the best, and the simplest way to do that is to watch other peoples FPV videos. But before you do that here is a good thing to know:
There are two different types of sensors that is used in cameras; CCD and CMOS. (The sensor is the part that actually captures the light and converts it into a digital image.) These two sensors work in different ways and both have their strengths and weaknesses. Neither is categorically superior to the other. I will try to summarize the pros and cons for the use in FPV of both these types:

CCD:
+ Better in low light situations
+ Low noise
+ More pixels/area
- Suffers from “smear”/“bleed” (Vertical lines when exposed to bright light)

CMOS:
+ Eatch pixel can have brightness/contrast correction
+ Less power consumption (up to a 100 times less!)
- Picture gets distorted with vibration (wobbly image)

Modern CMOS sensors has an advantage over the CCDs and that is that they can adjust the brightness/contrast of every pixel. This means that you can see both the ground and the sky correctly exposed at the same time! This is where the CCD struggles, on a sunny day you either see the ground correctly exposed or the sky but not the both at the same time. The CCD also suffers from “smear”/“bleeding” which means that when pointing the camera at a bright light, lines appear in the picture which can in turn lure the camera to underexpose the picture. Here is a picture of the phenomena. However the CCD has an advantage when it comes to handling vibration. On a CCD the picture simply gets a little blurry with small vibrations, where on the CMOS the picture gets “wobbly”. Here is a video of the phenomena. This can be a problem especially if you want to use a heli for FPV. On an airplane this should not be a problem if you have a properly balanced prop. If you want to read more about CMOS vs CCD this homepage is a good place to start

Most cameras that can be found in FPV shops are relabeled security cameras, f.ex the real name of the KX-171 camera I’ve used is “480 tvl 0.2 lux, 1/3″ SONY® super-HAD® CCD, 12VDC”.

Matching equipment
One thing to consider is to choose a video transmitter and a camera that operates on the same voltage, as this simplifies the powering of the two. If you use a 12V camera and a 12V video transmitter you can simply run both of them directly of a 3s LiPo. If you use a 5V setup you need a voltage regulator which adds extra weight and you will lose some efficiency. I recommend using a separate battery for the FPV equipment, it’s much less trouble than powering them from the main pack as you most certainly will experience severe interference in the video link. (Altho this can be overcome buy adding a couple of filters)

The display/goggles
Now that you’ve chose the video transmitter and camera you need something to display the image you’re transmitting. The cheapest alternative is to get a small TFT display, like 7”, and mount it inside of a box to block out sunlight, a so called “Geek box”. It’s cheap but isn’t very practical (nor good looking). Just be sure the screen has at least 640*480 pixels of resolution. An other alternative is to buy your self a pair of video-goggles.

They are much more practical and in my opinion give a much better experience when FPV flying. When choosing video-goggles I recommend a pair with at least 640*480 pixels resolution. Any lower and the experience will suffer greatly as it will “smudge” out the picture, destroying the details. Another figure to look out for is the FOV (Field Of View) angle number. This number tells you how big you will experience that the picture is. A higher value is better. When this is written the goggles with the best FOV is the Fatshark RCV922 with 46°. Not all manufacturers print this number, but some does gives a size of a “virtual” display experienced at 1 meters distance, usually 58” or something similar. Also in this case the higher value is better. Other than that it’s not much to look out for when choosing goggles. If you get a chance to test the goggles on before you buy them, take it. Try them on and make sure they feel “right”.

You’re done!
You now have what you need to do your first FPV flight. The next segment will cover the more “advanced” stuff that you might want to get further down the road. I will not be as “indepth” about these topics thou, but rather give you a simple taste of what they are. Even if it isn’t needed to fly FPV I strongly recommend getting yourself a recorder to be able to revisit your flights. This will help a great deal when learning to fly from the airplanes perspective. I can also recommend getting a patch antenna from the start, they are a cheap way to increase your range at the cost of 360° reception. But how often do sit in the middle of the field and fly around yourself?

Unpack the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K

Intel has invested 60 million US dollars to Yuneec- a drone manufacturer, what made Intel willing to invest? Today, let’s have a closer look at one of its products, and maybe we’ll know the answer. The drone we are going top know about is Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K.

1, package
We can see that the package is simple

Open the box, and there is another box inside

The case is made of carbonarius glass fiber and metal. The “what’s new” tag indicates the main parameters

The first thing occurred in front of us is a pack list and a paper board

The first layer of the case is accessories box storing a ND FILTER and USB cable such kind of small parts. The beneath are two pairs of 13 inch propellers

Move off the first layer, the next layer is the aircraft and charger and the like.

Aircraft
Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K weighs 1788.4g with battery, gimbal and propellers

Compared with Phantom, the difference on size is obvious.

The battery compartment lies on the backside. As long as you push, it can be opened.

The battery is designed with a handrail, making it convenient to bring.

The weight of the battery is 407g

This is 3S/ 11.1V/ 59.9WH battery with capacity of 5400mAh

Q500 4K adopts RoHS YUNM4234 700KV motors

It offers two sets of propellers( 8), notifying with A/B to let you know they are clockwise or anticlockwise to prevent wrong installations

Camera
Slightly press the “forehead” of the camera, then it is unloaded.

On the gimbal, there is a interface for adjusting parameter, i think it is designed for upgrading firmwares.

Remote controller with 5.5inch touch screen

The remote controller weighs 878.4g. Because it is equipped with a touch screen, it is understandable with heavier weight.

Turn the power-on switch, and the screen stars displaying

English is the default language

After power-on, long press the red button, then your Q500 4K will fly up. Besides, there are buttons for shooting and adjusting angles at the top left corner.

While at the top right corner, there are flight mode switch, recording and speed control button

The controller has a built-in 5200mAh battery

The interface on the right side

This one is the sunshade for the screen

With the suckers, it can be easily stick and stabilize

Handheld gimbal

Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K has a highlight- handheld gimbal. It can be dissembled from the drone and used alone.

It supports to be powered by 8 AA battery. It is recommended to use chargable LiPo battery

It can carry a smart phone for you to monitor

Other accessories

Charger. Unbelievable! It also offers a vehicle-use charging cable( the left one)

The accessories box i mentioned at the beginning is surprising!
